“For Here or to Go” – Desi Life in the US

People who went to the US from India are thought be living a luxurious life with a great job. There has always been a bright part and a sad part of it. Bhilawadikar, an immigrant who experienced how it is to be an outsider who struggles to be accepted by that country (here USA) has come up with a movie named “For Here or to Go” which portraits all the trouble and hardships of an immigrant who tries to get a green card and settle down there.

One, looking at the trailer would realize that it is not as easy as it looks to go there and survive for the rest of your life or to build your life there. Bhilawadikar, who introduced himself as an accidental filmmaker said that he wanted to show people the how the immigration actually works with his experiences added in and create awareness and empathy.

It started with a blog named “Stuff Desis Like” which also have shared his various experiences in the country. Then he got an idea to reach a mainstream audience with this film for which he struggled a lot to make his story into a picture.

The movie also has the instances of the hate crimes occurred way before the Kuchibhotla’s incident. He mentioned that the hate crimes were just ignored then but have always been there.
