Indian Cinema’s New Superstars: What’s the Benchmark?

The benchmark for success in Indian cinema has changed over the years. Earlier, films entering the 100 crore and 200 crore clubs were considered major hits. Today, the focus has shifted to the 500 crore mark as a measure of true star power.

Shah Rukh Khan leads this trend strongly. After the setback of Zero, he made a powerful comeback. Within eight months, Pathaan and Jawan each crossed 1000 crores, re-establishing his dominance at the box office.

Ranveer Singh has now entered this elite category with Dhurandhar. Despite a slow start, the film gained momentum quickly. Strong hype and audience response helped it grow, while its sequel opened bigger than the original.

S.S. Rajamouli secured his place years ago with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. He continued the momentum with Kalki 2898 AD. Allu Arjun also rose to the top with Pushpa, while its sequel performed even better at the box office.

Rashmika Mandanna benefited from the Pushpa success and joined the list. Deepika Padukone and Nayanthara strengthened their positions after working in Shah Rukh Khan’s major hits. Their consistency has made them reliable stars.

Yash entered the league with KGF Chapter 2, while Animal gave Ranbir Kapoor a strong boost. Vicky Kaushal gained attention with Chhaava. Anushka Shetty also became part of this space through the Baahubali franchise.

Ram Charan and Jr. NTR achieved massive success with RRR. Sunny Deol made a comeback with Gadar 2. These films helped expand the list of stars reaching the highest box office milestones.

The Maddock Horror Comedy Universe also played a key role in shaping new stars. Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor gained from Stree 2. Rishab Shetty joined the list with Kantara and its sequel success.

With many big budget films lined up, competition among stars is increasing. It remains to be seen who can maintain this level of success and stay relevant in the evolving landscape of Indian cinema.
