During a recent media interaction, blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan candidly spoke about the film industry and its current trends while sharing interesting perspectives about his upcoming film Mahavatar starring Vicky Kaushal.
Speaking about making an Rs 500 crore blockbuster, Dinesh stated, “People want to de-risk. We don’t believe that the film would work. So, we feel very good when the film is de-risked. But if you realize, every film that crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark was a risky film.”
Reflecting on the challenges while making his 2025 blockbuster Chhaava, the producer highlighted that “we didn’t know how to make Chhaava. Vicky Kaushal had never played a historical figure. Laxman Utekar had never directed a film of this kind.” He added that “we had to make that kind of film and do that kind of business for our survival.”
Dinesh further revealed that with his upcoming film with Vicky Kaushal titled Mahavatar, he wants to go six times as big as Chhaava, potentially making the film a global release.
He stated, “We are attempting to make a film called Mahavatar, which is about the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, Parshuram. With this film, we are trying to go really global. At times, I wonder, ‘How are we going to do this? ’. It’s six times the size of Chhaava. We cannot go to the world and say, “We are offering you something smaller.”
Referencing Namit Malhotra’s upcoming Ramayana, which is being mounted on a similarly huge scale, Dinesh stated that the spectacle’s success will eventually “pave the way” for Mahavatar.
The producer praised Namit for his clarity with the film even when it was in the initial stages four years ago. He revealed that Namit is one of the few people whom he relies on for guidance and vice versa.
He shared that “I told him, ‘If Ramayana runs, Mahavatar is all set,’ which prompted many social media users to question whether the success of upcoming mythological films is closely tied to Ramayana due to its spectacle status.
As Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films gears up to present many more exciting titles in the upcoming months, audiences are excited to see whether his upcoming Mahavatar will live up to the success of Ramayana.
