Mahavatar: Why It is Vicky Kaushal’s Riskiest Film?

Vicky Kaushal as Lord Parashuram in Mahavatar

Filmmaker Amar Kaushik is preparing to explore the mythological genre with his upcoming film Mahavatar. The project marks a major shift in his career after several successful films in the horror comedy space.

The film will feature Vicky Kaushal in the role of Lord Parashuram, a warrior sage from Hindu mythology. According to industry updates, the project is currently in the pre production stage and is expected to begin principal photography in July 2026.

However, the schedule for Mahavatar depends heavily on Vicky Kaushal’s ongoing commitments. The actor is currently busy filming Love & War, which is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The film also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in important roles. Since Love & War is already deep into production, Vicky Kaushal is expected to finish his remaining portions soon before shifting focus to Mahavatar.

Managing the schedules of two large scale productions could become a major challenge. Coordinating dates and maintaining continuity for both projects will require careful planning from the actor and the production teams.

For Amar Kaushik, the film represents a bold transition from his earlier filmmaking style. Mahavatar is being designed as a VFX heavy mythological spectacle, which requires extensive preparation before filming begins.

The preparation phase will reportedly include detailed visual planning along with physical training for Vicky Kaushal. The makers aim to complete the pre production work by June before moving to filming in July.

In recent years, Vicky Kaushal has strengthened his box office presence with films such as Chhaava, Bad Newz, Dunki, and Sam Bahadur.

If Mahavatar begins production as planned, 2026 could become a demanding year for the actor as he balances multiple big budget projects in quick succession.
