NYT faces flak introducing new word @great singer

Mahatma Gandhi’s name represents India big way when it comes to great inspiring people in the world. Likewise, we Indians have the notion that legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s name also represents India for the sheer brilliance of her prowess.

But when we see New York Times mentioning Lata’s name as ‘so-called playback singer’, out blood is sure to boil. It’s natural that the NYT was trolled heavily for calling an iconic singer ‘so-called’ who we regard as the as Nightingale of India. But is NYT is to be blamed?

According to the response of New York Times for the trolls, they explain that ‘playback singer’ is a new word for the non-Indians and to introduce the word, they’ve used ‘so-called’, but not to refer to Lata Mangeshkar.

All this happened when NYT wrote a report on a face-swap video uploaded by one Tanmay Bhatt who impersonated Lata and Sachin Tendulkar.
