Official: First Notable Biggie To Announce OTT Release With Date

We have so far heard about direct digital releases related to a couple of films in Tamil. Just the mere gossip has led to an uproar, with no official confirmation from the makers. Well, here comes the first ‘official announcement’.

The makers of Bollywood film Gulabo Sitabo have announced a direct OTT release. The movie will stream on Amazon Prime Video. The release date for the same is June 12th. It is a done deal, and the producers have no intention of going back on it.

Gulabo Sitabo is a biggie as it stars names likes Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead. The director is also multiplex favourite Shoojit Sircar. He is the person behind the classic movies like Vicky Donar, Madras Café, and Piku. Even his last release, a completely dry subject like October did well in the multiplexes.

As expected, the exhibition sector is not happy with the decision. They are chalking out propositions to avoid more such announcements in the future. They are planning to boycott the producer from theatrical releases in future when things become normal.

The buzz regarding an online release for Gulabo Sitabo was there from some time. It was also quashed at one time. However, this announcement has made the movie lovers curious regarding the other similar talk involving a few more flicks. Will Gulabo Sitabo open the flood gates?
