The first teaser for Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is out, and it feels like a mixture of director Mudassar Aziz’s previous works.
The preview features Ayushmann Khurrana, whose character is married to Wamika Gabbi but involved in extramarital affairs with two other women, played by Rakul Preet Singh and Sara Ali Khan.
The teaser suggests a story about a flirtatious husband who cheats on his wife and gets caught in a web of lie. This plot is nothing new as we have seen it done before in movies like Masti and No Entry.
Mudassar Aziz’s last few films were based on a similar concept. It seems he is not ready to step out of his comfort zone and evolve as a director, even though the comedy genre offers plenty of room for variety. Some critics believe Aziz is still stuck in the 90s while the rest of the world has moved on.
Social media reviewers feel the movie lacks novelty and resembles Kapil Sharma’s flop film, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. Many others believe that “husband-wife” comedies are now outdated and no longer attract the audience.
Industry experts commented that people don’t come to see recycled jokes on the big screen. When they pay for expensive tickets, they expect something fresh and memorable. They also pointed out that Ayushmann Khurrana should do something different other than small comedies. He should choose his projects wisely to stay relevant in the industry.
Trade analysts think that the film will underperform because of the its rehashed concept. They pointed out that after COVID the potential for small town comedies has reduced significantly and such movies don’t sell tickets anymore.
