Producer buying back his own remake rights?

It feels absurd reading the heading right? That’s how absurd some of the reporting has been on the issue of Oopiri remake in Bollywood.

Oopiri as we all know is a remake of blockbuster French film The Intouchables. It has fans world over so it shouldn’t come across as surprise if Bollywood producer Karan Johar happens to be one of them. The producer liked the film immensely and through a close source got the remake rights too way back in 2014 itself. He even made an official announcement about the remake with Mohit Suri helming the project.

All of above precedes Oopiri, in fact there was no such film in process at that time. So how can a producer who already owns the rights, again buy the rights? However now that we have a neatly adapted Oopiri, is the producer thinking of using the same script, thereby giving birth to remake rumors? Let’s then wait for Karan Johar to confirm it.
