Ranbir Committed Blunder? Dhanush’s Cult Romance

Aanand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa, which starred Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, has grown into a cult classic since its 2013 release. Surprisingly, it was recently revealed that the film could have starred Ranbir Kapoor instead. While Dhanush won hearts as Kundan, director Aanand L Rai originally approached Ranbir for the role. This casting detail emerged from an old interview with the filmmaker.

Aanand explained that Ranbir’s natural simplicity and adaptability made him a great fit for the character. These were qualities the director deeply admired and believed would have elevated the story. However, due to Ranbir’s packed schedule at the time, the opportunity didn’t materialize. That situation led Aanand to cast Dhanush, whose performance ultimately defined the film for many fans.

Had Ranbir played Kundan, the film might have taken on a different emotional tone. While the script and impact may have remained powerful, the audience’s connection to the character might have varied. Still, Raanjhanaa remains an unforgettable film that helped Dhanush gain pan-India popularity beyond Tamil cinema.

Ranbir, known for his range as an actor, is currently tied up with multiple projects. Fans of his romantic roles are hoping he collaborates with Aanand L Rai in the future. Such a pairing could bring back the charming, chocolate-boy vibe that some of his older films captured so well.

With Aanand L Rai facing a series of underwhelming box office runs recently, working with a big star like Ranbir could help revive his directorial momentum. Whether that collaboration happens or not, the idea of what Raanjhanaa could have been continues to intrigue movie lovers even today.
