Shah Rukh Khan’s Met Gala 2025 outing triggered unnecessary trolling when a video captured the moment when he was asked by a US journalist, “Who are you?” Some people hastened to presume that SRK was not recognized and only gave him a couple of seconds, terming it “embarrassing” for the Bollywood star.
But this criticism is misplaced and neglects the event’s normal procedure. During the Met Gala, journalists typically ask all of the celebrities, irrespective of their recognizability, to give their name by asking questions such as “Who are you?”
It is meant to facilitate the audience globally to recognize the varied participants who might not be known to every viewer. Even big Hollywood celebrities such as Anne Hathaway have had the same query posed to them in the red-carpet interviews.
SRK’s Met Gala entry was historic and noteworthy. Being the first Indian male actor to go, he stood for Indian cinema on an international fashion platform.
His decision to wear a black Sabyasachi ensemble with gold chains and a striking ‘K’ pendant was widely appreciated for its grace and cultural pride. Instead of lowering his standing, the event brought out his international appeal and humility.
The trolling is mere ignorance, not reality. Shah Rukh Khan’s attendance at the Met Gala is a source of pride for Indian cinema and a step in the right direction for global representation, not an embarrassment as some on the internet have suggested.
