Suryaa Remake Faces Box Office Questions
After a long wait, Sunny Deol’s upcoming film has been announced. Titled Suryaa, the movie is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 20, 2026.
Sunny will portray the lead role, and the film has been directed by M. Padmakumar. Kamal Mukut is presenting the film, and it has been produced by Deepak Mukut, Hemmant Mukut, and Lokesh Mukut under the production company MM Moviez.
While Sunny’s fans are excited, a new debate has now emerged after the makers revealed the motion poster of the film. Notably, it has been revealed that Suryaa is a remake of the Malayalam film Joseph, released in 2018 and featuring Joju George.
M. Padmakumar also directed the original film, which focused on a murder investigation, leading him to some disturbing secrets, including an organ-harvesting racket.
Ever since it was confirmed that Suryaa is a remake, netizens have started criticizing Sunny’s choice. A majority said that he could have opted for something original, even a sequel to any one of his cult classics, instead of going for a remake.
A particular section has already declared that the film will emerge as a disaster like Haiwaan. Some others said that while it might take a good opening due to Sunny’s star power, it will eventually flop, as the remake tag is something that is not accepted by the audiences today.
Apart from this, netizens even pointed out that it is arriving a week before Gunmaaster G9, which has already built a lot of buzz with its first glimpse. Although Emraan Hashmi’s film is clashing with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Yeh Prem Mol Liya, social media users claimed that the hype for both the films is far bigger compared to Suryaa.
While the situation is similar to the clash that happened between Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2, netizens stated that the makers should either choose some other release date or simply bring the film on OTT if they don’t want to suffer any losses.
Some even questioned the choice of the producers, saying that why they are releasing two of their films, which include Gunmaaster G9, back-to-back with only a gap of a week.
Although the criticism continues, Sunny Deol’s fans are confident that Suryaa will work at the box office and one week will be sufficient for the film to emerge even as an average grosser. However, nothing much can be predicted until the advance booking opens. Let’s wait and see if Suryaa will attract the masses.
