John Abraham’s The Diplomat was originally scheduled to be released on March 7 but has now been pushed to March 14, where it will clash with Dhadak 2 during the festival of colours.
Starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, Dhadak 2 should have ideally begun its promotions with only three weeks left for its release. However, it has been stuck at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Dhadak 2 deals with caste issues and is expected to be a hard-hitting film. The Examining Committee of the CBFC has applauded the makers for addressing such a subject.
However, due to its sensitive content, they are still deliberating on what rating should be assigned to the film and whether any scenes need to be cut.
The promotional campaign for the film will start once it receives clearance from the censor board. The makers prefer to be cautious and avoid any delays in its release due to certification issues.
If the film gets approval, it will be released on March 14, otherwise, the date might be pushed further.
This situation has surprised the industry, as the original film, Pariyerum Perumal (2018), did not face any censorship hurdles.
Since Dhadak 2 follows the same storyline, many are questioning why it is facing such issues when the Tamil film did not.
Last month, former CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani spoke about this discrepancy. He said that CBFC members from South India tend to be more liberal, whereas many members from Mumbai have political affiliations that influence their decisions.
Now, all eyes are on the CBFC’s verdict.
Will Dhadak 2 get the green light in time, or will the much-anticipated clash between Siddhant Chaturvedi and John Abraham this Holi be postponed?
