Without revealing spoilers, Sardar 2 presents a fresh mission involving Sardar and his son. They confront SJ Suryah’s character, who is attempting to unleash biological warfare. How the father and son deactivate a dangerous machine and prevent an antibiotic apocalypse forms the basic story.
Performances
Karthi delivers his usual neat performance as Sardar and his son. There are no major complaints about his acting, but the film hardly gives him anything impressive to work with. Despite playing two roles, he does not get a single noteworthy performance block that stays with the audience.
The first half begins on a serious and intriguing note, with the search for Agent Walrus eventually leading to mission DOKU. The good part is that the film stays completely focused on the plot without any deviations.
But the execution is extremely silly. The entire Japan episode, especially the military plane sequence featuring Karthi and Malavika performing mid-air stunts and jumping out of planes, is laughable. The action choreography feels unintentionally funny, even though everything on screen is presented very seriously.
There is a brief emotional block involving children, but it does little to change the overall feel. Neither Karthi’s flashback episode as the younger Sardar, Agent Bose, nor Malavika’s attempt to deactivate a highly dangerous machine works as intended.
The director sincerely sticks to the plot, but the first half misses badly in execution.
The second half too offers absolutely no relief. In fact, its excessive length takes the tiredness to another level.
SJ Suryah sends Sardar on a mission to find DOKU, moving through different floors and solving a new puzzle at every stage before reaching the machine. The logic behind this entire setup is laughable, and the sequence becomes more exhausting with every floor.
The pre-climax and climax are painfully stretched. Yogi Babu’s brief comedy adds nothing, while the never-ending aerial fight involving SJ Suryah and both Karthi characters completely gets on your nerves. By the end, the film makes you regret sitting through it.
Overall, Sardar 2 does not have a single impressive block. The spy plot offers neither thrills nor a convincing narrative. It is simply a long, tiring, and unintentionally funny mission.
Performances by Other Actors
Sardar 2 features several familiar actors, including SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, Rajisha Vijayan and others. However, none of them makes a positive impact.
Ashika Ranganath’s role and performance are barely worth mentioning. Among the supporting cast, SJ Suryah has the most prominent role as the villain. Unfortunately, both his character and performance are extremely loud, outdated and annoying to the core.
Sam CS provides the music. The film has no songs, while the background score sounds completely dated and forgettable. Much like the film itself, the BGM also tests the audience’s patience.
George C Williams’ cinematography does not give the film any impressive visual quality. There is hardly anything noteworthy about the camera work.
Vijay Velukutty’s editing should have been much sharper, especially in the second half. The film feels extremely lengthy and needed a more ruthless approach on the editing table.
The production values from Prince Pictures and Ivy Entertainment are adequate, but the CG work is below par.

This sequel has no real reason to exist, either in terms of story or audience demand. What we get is a cringeworthy, over-the-top mission that today’s audience can only laugh at. Not a single block makes a genuine impact, including #Karthi’s senior Sardar portions. SJ Suryah is just a loud addition.
No songs, no unnecessary detours but the film still gets almost everything wrong.

First half sticks to the plot without any deviations but the execution is way too over-the-top. Characters jump out of planes and pull off impossible stunts, making a serious mission look silly and unconvincing.
