1000 Cr Film: After Dhurandhar 2, the Next Contenders?

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 became the first Bollywood and the third Indian film after Bahubali 2 and Pushpa 2 to enter the Rs 1000 crore club in the domestic market.

While only three films have been able to achieve this glorious milestone in the industry, seven upcoming films are reportedly gearing up to challenge these narratives and possibly go beyond it.

The first one on the list is Yash’s upcoming spectacle, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. After delivering a universal blockbuster with “KGF 2” in 2022, the actor is back on the big screen after a four-year hiatus.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, this title has been shot in English and Kannada and features Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria in key roles.

Second is Namit Malhotra’s highly anticipated Rs 4000 crore spectacle, Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, and Sunny Deol.

This title is allegedly meant to take India to the global map; however, the backlash around the film’s recently released teaser has raised many doubts.

Prabhas’ upcoming Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Tripti Dimrii and Vivek Oberoi, has also raised eyebrows in insider circles as its first look garnered a thunderous response from fans.

After delivering multiple hits like Their, Mersal, Bigil, and Jawan, filmmaker Atlee has collaborated with superstar Allu Arjun for a mega-budget sci-fi adventure, Raaka, reportedly made with a whopping budget of Rs 700 crore.

SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi starring Mahesh Babu has also generated immense curiosity around the film’s box office potential and global impact considering the maverick’s previous success with Babhubali.

After the massive success of Salaar, Prabhas and director Prashant Neel are reuniting for the title’s sequel, which is expected to go on floors soon.

Lastly, directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2 starring Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan is also expected to break box office records as its first titles recieved massive audience reception.

Among the list, Prabhas continues to shine and might possibly hold the first title, having two Rs 1000 crore films in the span of a decade.

As the Indian film industry gears up to deliver some of its most noteworthy performers, it will be interesting to see which one of these titles breaks all the records and changes the trajectory of Indian cinema.
