War 2 to Housefull 5: Has Bollywood Given Up?

With a buffet of sequels, spin-offs, and franchise revivals on the menu, Bollywood appears to be playing it painfully safe. Why experiment when something’s already making money?

The hit comedy franchise Housefull is back with its fifth installment with lots of confusion and chaos and two different endings.

Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Nana Patekar will lead this madness. But with buzz running low, has the joke run
too long?

Aamir Khan’s spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par features an inclusive casting, but it’s still piggybacking off the emotional legacy of a previous hit. Original? Not quite.

Ranbir Kapoor is also rumored to join the high-octane Dhoom franchise, and fans are thrilled. But yet again, the same old formula—fast bikes, cool guys, and big heists—can be expected.

For Ayan Mukherji’s WAR 2, Hrithik Roshan will be returning as Kabir; joining him is Jr. NTR, all set to make his Bollywood debut with this spy thriller.

At this point, every installment feels like less of a cinematic universe and more of a never-ending loop.

Baaghi 4, Jolly LLB 3, Dhadak 2, and Son of Sardaar 2—each title screams déjà vu. With recycled plots, stars, and emotions, the question is, is Bollywood going creatively bankrupt?

Nostalgia sure is comforting, but the risk-taking, fresh ideas, and bold scripts have gone missing.

If 2025 is anything to go by, Bollywood is becoming less about innovation and more about cashing in on what’s already worked—over and over again.
