Multiplex Scam Exposed: PVR & INOX Threatened?

Just when we thought everything was going well, a fresh controversy has erupted in the world of entertainment.

The center of attention? PVR! It so happened that Warner Bros recently accused PVR Inox of favouring its in-house distributed films over other big releases.

Yes, we are talking about Sitaare Zameen Par and Maa here which were released some time back. The accusation is about PVR Inox ignoring Hollywood releases like F1: The Movie, M3GAN 2.0 and How to Train Your Dragon.

Now, Warner Bros doesn’t seem to be happy about this and has demanded fair shows for all the four movies. They also alleged unfair treatment and threatened to withhold other upcoming films like Jurassic World Rebirth (July 4) and Superman (July 11) if demands weren’t met.

The situation escalated further when Warner held back KDMs (keys to play films) in certain theatres. However, if reports are to be believed, PVR has reportedly increased screenings as per Warner’s terms by Friday.

So, why the chaos? Well, many remain divided in their opinion. While some say multiplexes are overwhelmed with releases (Kannappa, Ballerina, Materialists, Housefull 5), others argue that Warner took a necessary stand to avoid being sidelined.

The delay of Nikita Roy, originally scheduled for June 27, to July 18, is another casualty of this overcrowded release window.

With back-to-back releases lined up through July, we can even expect more screen wars in the weeks to come.
