Aquaman 2: Finally A Breath In Doomed DC

Drowning with just $378 million in global revenues to date and probably another $15-20 million on the table at most Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom—the sequel to 2018’s $1.1 billion earning Aquaman heads to physical media hitting stores.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is expected to gross $396 million globally, bringing the total to $410-415 million, the first time a DCEU picture has surpassed $400 million since 2018. How much more than $400 million it makes will be determined by the effects of its home media release this week.

James Wan’s successor to his Jason Momoa-starring success is the ninth and (mercifully) last DCEU film to generate less than $400 million at the global box office [to date], capping a tragic five-year fall of the once-dominant DC Comics cinematic brand.

DC Comics’ real-life characters in shared-world films, notably Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, haven’t been able to earn enough cash to pay production costs for the past five years. Only Shazam! and Birds of Prey made money, while Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom were less successful than the 2018 feature. Despite a drop in box office and crowd excitement, the sequel picture fared better than expected.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is presently the eighth-highest-earning picture in the DCEU, although it might overtake Black Adam if it exceeds $390 million. The DC properties have been weakened and harmed in the eyes of ordinary people, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom presently in the center of the DCEU’s box.
