Broadway actor Imani Smith, known for playing Young Nala in Disney’s The Lion King, has died after an alleged homicide in the United States. The news has left you confronting another shocking loss from the performing arts world.
According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Imani was fatally stabbed on December 21. Police responded to a 911 call at a home in Edison and found her with multiple stab wounds.
She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Authorities said the injuries were severe and left little chance of survival.
Reports state that Imani’s boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, has been arrested in connection with her death. Investigators confirmed the two knew each other and that the attack was not random.
Jackson-Small was taken into custody without resistance. He faces charges including first-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and multiple weapons-related offences. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Centre.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Imani’s family, including her parents and siblings. She is survived by her three-year-old son. The case once again forces you to confront the harsh and often hidden reality of domestic violence.
