“Aquaman” ends the massive journey of DCEU, becoming the final nail in the coffin. However, the disaster continues as “Aquaman” is having a ‘Disastrous’ run at the box office—at least that’s what the headlines will tell.
Slowly swimming at the box office, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” had its first day in the office, and the stats look ‘concerning.’ The film made $4.5M as a preview, but it is nowhere near the preview of the first installment.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is projected to earn $35-40 million over the four-day holiday weekend, lower than the original’s $67 million start in 2018. Despite a modest Thursday preview of $9 million, the first “Aquaman” soared to $335 million in North America and $1.15 billion globally.
But again, the first one had an opening on a Friday and this second one saw the light of the day on a the Thursday, this did have a massive effect on the collection.
Comparatively, recent DC films like “The Flash,” “Blue Beetle,” and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” had varying preview earnings and opening weekend figures.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” sees Jason Momoa’s hero teaming up with his reformed brother to battle the villainous Black Manta. The film offers 3D action, underwater creatures, and powerful tridents. Notably, Momoa’s Aquaman won’t be part of the upcoming DC Universe revamp starting with “Superman: Legacy” in 2025, introducing a new cast.
Though “Wonka” will definitely entertain the kids’ department, “Aquaman” might fight for its place. Besides that, it will undoubtedly get hardcore fans’ support. It is prominent that “Aquaman 2” won’t flourish anywhere near as bright as the first film; it, being the last straw, will definitely get love.
