Ridley Scott has some deep rooted regrets because he wasn’t asked to direct Aliens or the Blade Runner.
When Ridley Scott’s Alien hit theatres in 1979, it was only his second theatrical film, and he had zero to no clue that it would be such a big phenomenon.
With movies like Gladiator, Alien, Napoleon and Blade Runner we know in which capacity Ridley Scott can direct and his unique technique and camera works are phenomenal.
While promoting his long-awaited “Gladiator” sequel, which is directed by him. The filmmaker talked about the real reason why he wasn’t the filmmaker for any of the ‘Alien’ sequels.
“I’m the author of two franchises.Most directors in Hollywood certainly, let’s say, at my level don’t let that stuff go. But I did ‘Alien’ as my second movie, so I didn’t have much choice. And ‘Blade Runner‘ was my third movie. So, I had no choice because I had very tough partners. It was kind of ‘Welcome to Hollywood.’”
He also added, “I was never told or asked about the sequels. You can imagine I wasn’t happy.”
He directed the decade long movie Gladiator in 2000 and Blade Runner in 1982. Both of them are cult classics.
While James Cameron took the prequel of “Alien” , Denis Villeneuve took “Blade Runner 2049”.
Although both the movies are again one of a kind, taking the art from its artist isn’t a good thing.
