Wonka Shines As Aquaman Sinks In BO

As the year comes to an end, Team M9 wishes you a happy new year. However, in the last box office (BO) of the year, DC faces another flop amidst the rise of an eccentric chocolate maker.

Wonka manages to pull off a wonder and stays at the very top with its whopping $23.9M collection during the weekend. It won’t be stopping there, as counting the Monday collection in, Wonka can cross $31M in the four-day window.

On the flip side, Aquaman didn’t have a similar fate, as DC’s last ship sank. Aquaman manages to gross $19.5M and can reach up to $26M by the end of the holiday. However, with a reboot on the horizon, the stats won’t matter that much.

Next up is Universal and Illumination’s animation “Migration,” grossing a whopping $17.2M, crossing the $100M mark.

“The Color Purple” takes the fourth place, being the only WB movie in the top four list. Despite having a strong start, “The Color Purple” didn’t finish the year on a good note, bagging $13M during the weekend.

“Anyone but You” also makes a mark as a good R-rated comedy, breaking off its production cost. This weekend’s BO sees the film gathering $9M and can potentially increase this tally to $11.2M.
