Natural Star Nani delivered a hit with Vivek Athreya this year, who previously directed Ante Sundaraniki, a film that flopped in theaters. The duo returned with a mass entertainer in a unique setup, but Saripodhaa Sanivaaram ended up being one of the most overrated films of the year.
Online hype painted it as a memorable, out-of-the-box, and a kick ass mass film, but it does not fit any of those categories. In terms of writing, performances, or treatment, it fell short. While it’s a decent one-time watch, it’s not a bad film either.
A section of fans, especially online, exaggerated this film in an amateurish manner. Some even labeled Vivek Athreya a “modern pioneer of directors,” showcasing the heights of exaggeration.
The movie’s standout element was its concept of Nani saving his anger for Saturdays. However, the director didn’t explore this idea deeply. Beyond that single line, there was nothing fresh in the film.
The film’s success also relied heavily on the background score and S.J. Suryah’s performance, and Nani’s goodwill for attempting different films. Most people associate the film more with S.J. Suryah than Nani, highlighting its lackluster execution.
While Saripoda Sanivaaram is not a bad film, it remains a decent watch marred by overhype, making it the most overrated film of the year.
