85% Indian drinkers prefer strong beer!

Liquor consumption is high among Indians and it is an open fact. However a study by the All India Brewers Association revealed that beer is popular with Indians and their sales equal to the sales of country liquor and Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL).

It is also revealed that most beer drinkers prefer strong beers which have higher alcohol content. The study also revealed that beer consumption is highest in Andhra Pradesh followed by Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu comes third in the list.

Many states in India have an excise duty policy where taxes are more on hard liquors. So strong beers attract big excise duty and hence will cost more. But 85% of the drinkers prefer strong beers despite the high costs. Beer on an average has an alcohol content of 8%.
