Abusive Fans Win, As Versatile Actor Leaves Legend’s Biopic

Has the various trends on social media and the mounting pressure from Tamil people across the globe made the versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi leave the biopic 800, on Muttiah Muralitharan. An official statement has been issued in this regard by Murali and the actor too tweeting, ‘Thank You, Vanakkam’.

More than the actor, it was the decision of the legendary Sri Lankan cricketer, Muralitharan. The cricketer is reportedly left angry and anguished over the reaction to Vijay Sethupathi’s casting. He gave a detailed interview explaining his position (regarding the politics), but even that didn’t suffice to the Tamil Eelam community. At last, he requested the actor to leave the project as the voices were becoming fierce.

Ever since the announcement of 800, social media has been filled with abuses on Vijay Sethupathi. We saw trends like Shame On Vijay Sethupathi (and many others) at the top. A small community of actors and people from Tamil cinema did support him, but that was clearly not enough.

We have to see if team 800 goes ahead with the biopic with another actor or if the project is shelved entirely. The response to the motion poster featuring Vijay Sethupathi was terrific. It would be not easy to find a replacement for him. More so considering the stunning and incredible resemble the actor and cricketer has had in the glimpse.
