Vishal Joins The All-Time Disasters List!

Tamil Cinema is in the doldrums this year with some of the biggest disasters in recent times like Lal Salaam, Captain Miller, Ayalaan, and Rebel. Not just in Tamil they turned out to be colossal flops in their Telugu versions and the US as well.

Now there’s another unfortunate addition to the growing list of disasters from Tamil – Vishal’s Rathnam directed by mass specialist Hari.

The film (all versions) collected a meager 2 crore share from India on its first day. The overseas collections were even more dismal. The total overseas gross till now is just about $10,000 K (around 8 lakhs INR).

Vishal was once considered to be a safe bet in the Telugu states. But over the past few years, he completely lost his market, especially in the Telugu states. In Telugu states, he was a minimum guarantee hero with collections coming from B and C centers. But all that has gone now with continuous bad films.

Rathnam is slammed by critics as another outdated, obsolete, and contrived action drama that’s an assault on the senses, especially the gruesome climax.

After this all-time disaster film, Rathnam, it would be very difficult for Vishal to recreate a market for himself in the Telugu states from here on.
