Acts of Destruction..

Looks like the successful run of Telugu film industry this year is coming to an end. But with the recent vandalisms that have been seen in protest of some films released recently, for reasons ranging from caste, gender, religion and community, the Tollywood is indeed in not a good place.

Pawan Kalyan’s last release, Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu, A Woman in Brahminism and Maruti’s recent release are some of the films that earned the warath of the public for reasons like hurting Telangana sentiments or the indecent representation of the Brahmin women.

Telugu film producers council president, D Suresh Babu, however is of the belief that movies have a tendency to become easy targets for “mischief mongers” looking for some cheap publicity “by making a mountain out of a molehill”. He says, “The easiest way to gain popularity is to target a film because of the mass popularity movies enjoy. Also, the media has grown manifold in the state and any protest, however big or small, manages to grab media attention. So, it’s something we as filmmakers have learned to live with. In any case, this is not the first time something like this is happening.”
