Written by director Charukesh Sekar, the basic plot of Ammu is engaging in parts – something that is relevant and realistic. The film starts off slowly but gets interesting once the narrative explores the dark side of Aishwarya Lekshmi and Naveen Chandra’s relationship.
Many scenes hit the right notes without going overboard but, it gets too predictable and Bobby Simha’s track look forced does not blend well into the narrative. And the film’s climax too could have been better written and handled.
Aishwarya Lekshmi does justice to her career’s most challenging role. Naveen Chandra and Bobby Simha deliver impactful performances to keep you decently hooked for a leisure home watch. Technically the film is made on a limited budget.
After many disappointments like Penguin, Silence, and other fiascos, Prime Video finally delivers a direct-to-OTT Telugu film that is watchable, mainly for the decent performances from the lead cast and the relevant issue it raises. The film is a sensitive take on domestic abuse, with few shortcomings in the screenplay.
