Peak Fight In Tamil, But Tollywood Is Miles Behind?

Healthy competition in the creative space is always welcome, and Tamil cinema has been witnessing this in recent years.

Anirudh Ravichander and Sai Abhyankkar have been delivering impressive music in their respective careers. Anirudh has dominated the music charts for more than a decade, while Sai made his entry into the industry a couple of years ago.

The output they have been generating while competing in the same space has been remarkable. Anirudh raises the bar with an album, and Sai follows with music that brings a fresh creative touch. Anirudh then responds with another strong album, creating a cycle of healthy competition that benefits Tamil cinema.

One example is Jailer 2, for which Anirudh has composed a trance-like soundtrack. His music is expected to play a key role throughout the film, showcasing his musical style and ability to create an engaging experience.

This is followed by Sai Abhyankkar‘s Veera Veera from Om. The song stands out for its pulsating energy and is among the notable recent tracks from South Indian cinema. Its orchestration and programming also reflect a high level of technical quality.

However, a similar level of competition appears to be missing in Telugu cinema. The industry has several talented composers, but there is a perception that mainstream music directors have not consistently delivered music at the same level in recent years.

DSP and Thaman previously shared a period of creative competition, with both composers delivering memorable music for Telugu films. However, that kind of rivalry appears less prominent among the current generation of composers. As a result, Telugu filmmakers working on ambitious projects have increasingly turned to Anirudh Ravichander for their music.
