With Kantara: Chapter 1, the prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, now released, social media is abuzz with debates about which Indian sequel ranks the highest in recent years since the pan-India wave began.
The list naturally starts with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, the sequel to Baahubali (2015), followed by KGF 2 (2022), Pushpa 2 (2024), and now Kantara: Chapter 1. While Pushpa 2 leads in Hindi box office collections with over ₹800 crore, no film matches the cultural impact of Baahubali 2.
Fans may admire KGF 2 and Pushpa 2, but the scale, emotional connect, and universal acclaim of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion remain unparalleled. S.S. Rajamouli’s direction and Prabhas’ screen presence as Amarendra Baahubali continue to define the benchmark for Indian cinematic sequels.
Even years later, Baahubali 2 holds its dominance as India’s most celebrated sequel. No upcoming release appears ready to challenge its reach or legacy. It remains the highest-ranked and most loved sequel in Indian cinema history.
