Bhairavam is set to release in theatres on May 30th. The film is directed by Vijay Kanakamedala known for his previous work on Allari Naresh’s critically acclaimed film Naandhi. This time, he returns with Bhairavam, an out-and-out rural action film featuring three lead heroes: Nara Rohith, Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, and Manchu Manoj who is making a comeback after several years.
The film has already run into unwanted controversy due to a remark made by the director during the trailer launch.
In his speech, Vijay Kanakamedala referenced a political comment saying someone came an year ago to “protect Dharmam,” and that Bhairavam also revolves around a similar theme.
This indirect satire didn’t sit well with YSRCP or YS Jagan supporters, who are now calling for a boycott of the film, using hashtags like #BoycottBhairavam and tagging the director online.
This isn’t the first time a film has been caught in political controversy. Recently, Vishwak Sen’s film faced backlash after comedian Prudhvi made satirical comments about YSRCP. Now, Bhairavam finds itself in similar trouble — only this time, it’s the director himself who stirred the issue.
In today’s scenario, bringing audiences to theatres is a nightmare, and getting a decent opening for a film is no joke.
In these genuinely difficult times, directors — or anyone affiliated with a film — should restrain themselves from making political comments or taking digs at political parties during public events.
At the end of the day, they don’t want to damage their own film.
In this case, director Vijay Kanakamedala clearly poked YCP and Jagan fans unnecessarily.
Ironically, he still wants everyone — including them — to watch his film. He seems to have forgotten that, and it was a dumb move to pass political satires at a film event.
