Chiranjeevi at the Sigma event
Imagine an actor walking into cinema wanting to play different kind of role either it be Hero or Anti Hero. Then imagine that same actor becoming so big that every new role has to pass through the filter of “Will this work for Chiranjeevi the Megastar?”
That is the career journey Chiranjeevi reflected on at the Sigma event.
He revealed that during his early days, he was keen on doing a variety of roles and was open to playing both heroes and anti-heroes. He wanted to explore characters rather than remain confined to a single image.
But as his stardom exploded, the equation changed. The expectations attached to his name became enormous, and commercial cinema gradually became the dominant space around him.
Chiranjeevi summed up that transformation with a striking admission: “I got trapped in the commercial mould.” There is a fascinating contradiction in those words. The commercial formula helped create the Megastar, but the Megastar image eventually made it harder for the actor to freely experiment.
The young Chiranjeevi wanted to discover what he could do with different characters. The Megastar had to deliver what audiences expected from Chiranjeevi.
The actor wanted to change masks. Stardom eventually handed him one mask and made it iconic.
