Buddhist Monastery Boulevard in Amaravati

On the lines of Bodhgaya in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh government is planning of setting up a Monastery Boulevard in Amaravati. Buddhists across the globe can come there and build their monasteries. This idea is expected to increase the Buddhist tourism in the upcoming capital of the state.

Monasteries belonging to different Buddhist orders were also been seen in Dharmasala and Kathmandu. Both of them attract huge number of international tourists every year. It is known that the 29 capital notified villages of Andhra Pradesh have a rich history dating back to the second century BC. These villagers were ruled by the Satavahanas and Buddhism flourished here.

The Foundation stone for Amaravati is being planned for Dussehra and the construction works will begin immediately after that. Earlier there were proposals of naming it after TDP Founder NT Rama Rao but Chandrababu avoided it so as to make the place a Buddhist tourism destination by keeping Amaravati as the name.
