CBFC Film Documents Exposed Online
A massive data leak at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has exposed records related to more than 500 films, according to media reports. The leaked files reportedly include film scripts, censor cut orders, and other documents submitted by filmmakers to get approval for theatrical releases.
The leak is linked to eCinepramaan, the CBFC’s online film certification portal. Launched around a decade ago, the portal allows filmmakers to submit documents and apply for film certification online.
The leaked documents were reportedly available for download on the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library that saves online content. After the issue came to light, the Internet Archive said the files had been removed and the matter had been reported to cyber authorities.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of confidential film documents. Scripts and censor cut orders can reveal important story details and scenes from upcoming films. Filmmakers may want to keep such information secret until their films reach theatres.
The CBFC has confirmed that it is investigating the incident and checking the portal’s security. The board said it had reviewed claims of unauthorized access but had found no evidence that others had accessed the exposed documents. It also said there was no sign that any filmmaker’s account had been hacked.
The investigation is still underway. The CBFC has said it will share more details once the inquiry is complete.
The biggest question is how these confidential documents became publicly available in the first place. Filmmakers depend on online systems to submit sensitive material. This incident has raised serious questions about data security and whether enough steps were taken to protect unreleased film content.
