Hyped Film Under Censor’s Scissors

Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film Oppenheimer has been granted a surprising ‘U/A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India.

This certification indicates that the film is suitable for viewers above 12 years of age, which has sparked curiosity among fans who were expecting an ‘A’ certificate due to reports of prolonged nudity.

Oppenheimer has received an ‘R’ rating in many countries, highlighting its inclusion of harsh language and explicit nudity. Nolan fans are a bit disappointed that they will not be able to see the original R-rated version. They are now eager to discover the extent of any editing done to the explicit scenes.

It is expected that potentially explicit moments will be either zoomed in or blurred, while stronger swear words like the F-word, a**hole, and others, may have already been censored. Additionally, there has been a 5- to 6-minute reduction in the running time.

The film is all set to take a big opening in India thanks to the brand value of Nolan. Worldwide, it will stay well below Barbie, which is recording the best sales for a Hollywood film since the release of Avatar 2. Barbie is heading for a $150 million domestic weekend and is all set to topple tentpole Hollywood action and superhero franchises.
