Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer has taken the Indian box office by storm with exceptional advance bookings. This proves Nolan’s strong and loyal fanbase worldwide.
For the opening weekend, PVR and Inox have sold more than 2,50,000 tickets, with over 1,00,000 tickets booked for the first day alone. The number of advance tickets sold for the weekend already surpasses any Hollywood film in India this year.
Despite being a dark docudrama with horror tones and an ‘A’ certification, it is expected to earn Rs 10–12 crores on its opening day. In India, Oppenheimer is predicted to have the biggest opening for a Nolan film, surpassing even cult favorites like The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk.
Early projections indicate an opening weekend box office collection of over Rs 35 crore net. Although it faces competition from another anticipated film, Barbie, Oppenheimer is set to be the first choice in India this weekend. But globally, Barbie is all set to open much bigger than Oppenheimer.
While films like Oppenheimer’s usually have limited theatrical longevity, Nolan’s track record leaves room for surprises.
