PM Modi vs Prakash Raj: Cinema Turns Political Again

In the past few years cinema has become a ground for ideological warfare and party politics being seeped through the masses who want to be entertained. A genre propaganda film has been curated by the fans who claim certain films to be made purely for the purpose of political games of parties and how they disillusion the masses.

With Dhurandhar franchise this claim has gone to a sky rocketting level as the film tends to be hyper nationalistic and Dhurandhar even brings Narendra Modi on the big screen in a snippet. Most recently prime minister of India Narendra Modi was promoting his party in Kerala elections where he could be seen defending films like Dhurandhar, The Kerala Story and The Kashmir Files.

Actor Prakash Raj commented on this defence by tweeting that Narendra Modi has shifted “from selling tea to selling films” which highlights his desperation. Prakash has always been very open and assertive in his opposition of the current government and he always points out the shortcomings and shows his regrets on the policies of the Modi government.

With elections in Kerala and Bengal on the rise it clearly shows that the actors who were supposed to be entertainers have become implicit in party politics and it puts question on the very art of film making. Many netizens asked if it all has been reduced to propaganda.
