The Child Welfare Committee of Ranga Reddy District (a bench of magistrates) is taking up an initiative to help the families of convicts so that the children do not have to resort to crime to make both ends meet. 76 convicts were identified in Cherlapally Jail for this help and their family members will be provided a new means of livelihood.
The authorities observe this trend mainly in the cases of life sentence convicts. So they have started identifying and counselling such cases across all the prisons in Telangana. The initiative which began in Cherlapally jail as pilot project will be taken up all the jails in the state very soon.
