Six Years for Dhruv, Ten and Counting for Akhil

Star kids face immense pressure to deliver commercially successful or critically accepted films at the start of their careers, which is no easy task. While many star kids have passed this test, Akhil Akkineni is still waiting for his breakthrough even years after his debut.

Coincidentally, Dhruv Vikram, son of Tamil superstar Vikram, faced a similar struggle early in his career. Even his debut film was scrapped. However, his recent film Bison, a socially hard-hitting story earned him critical praise for both the subject and his grounded performance. Finally, Dhruv won acceptance as an actor, and now his future largely depends on his next choices – at least he cleared the first major test.

Akhil Akkineni on the other hand, is still waiting for his ‘Pass’ moment. His next film ‘Lenin’ slated for release next year is reportedly a rooted, content-driven subject. Some argue that films of this kind are overdone in Telugu already, but there is hope that Akhil will bring something fresh, impress audiences and finally secure the much-needed breakthrough he has been waiting for.

While Dhruv began his debut project ‘Adithya Varma’ which was scrapped in 2019, Akhil made his debut in 2015 with ‘Akhil’ movie.
