Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge directed by Aditya Dhar was released in theatres on March 18th and is on a rampage at the box office, collecting more than 1000 crores worldwide in just seven days of its theatrical run.
Despite the positive response to the film, some viewers on social media criticized Dhurandhar 2 after watching it, claiming the film is loaded with propaganda and that Aditya Dhar intentionally made it to praise and support the BJP party.
In this scenario, the cult director Vetrimaaran stated during a speech at a recent event that everything today becomes propaganda and that propaganda has the power to influence memory.
Furthermore, he mentioned that we all know who was severely impacted by demonetization and how many people lost their lives because of it. Additionally, he claimed that these films are all just hate propaganda.
Even though Vetrimaaran did not openly mention that the film he was referring to is Dhurandhar 2, everyone knew he was indirectly attacking it because the movie recently praised the demonetization move as a tactical step by the Indian government to fight against counterfeit currency.
However, Vetrimaaran’s speech is receiving two contrasting opinions among audiences. Some people feel that what Vetrimaaran is saying is actually true, suggesting that these sorts of propaganda might change the mindset of the common man and mislead them against the opposition.
On the other hand, some note that all films are propaganda films; if Dhurandhar 2 is claimed to be propaganda, his films are also based on propaganda for oppressed people in their own way. Therefore, regardless of whether it is a propaganda film or not, Dhurandhar 2 is highly enjoyable with a gripping screenplay, which is why it has emerged as a huge blockbuster success.
Additionally, they claim that continuously making films on past upper-caste and lower-caste issues does not seem to be propaganda for Vetrimaaran, but making a film based on India and Pakistan’s modern-day reality issues is propaganda for him. Therefore, by pointing to this they are trolling Vetrimaaran, that with this his hypocrisy is clearly visible, so Tamil audiences should stop supporting him blindly.
Ultimately, Vetrimaaran’s indirect attack on Dhurandhar 2 is now going viral on social media and many people are sharing their responses and reactions to it.
