Producer Dil Raju made some shocking and scary comments about the current condition of Tollywood during the teaser launch event of Summer Holidays, a children-centric family entertainer. Sharing the stage with the film’s young cast and crew, Dil Raju openly spoke about the challenges facing the Telugu film industry and stressed the importance of quality storytelling to bring audiences back to theatres.
Speaking candidly, Dil Raju said, “Today’s industry is in a very bad shape. I will say this with courage as it might scare some people out there.” His comments come at a time when Tollywood is already witnessing intense discussions around poor theatrical footfalls, theatre survival issues, and repeated concerns over audience turnout.
Dil Raju pointed out that the responsibility now lies with filmmakers to create content strong enough to pull people back into cinemas. “It would be a big challenge for us if we don’t bring our audience into theatres. To do that, you should make such great movies and get your audiences into theatres too,” he said.
The senior producer also highlighted the importance of smaller films in maintaining the industry’s long-term health. According to him, once audiences start visiting theatres regularly, they naturally support good cinema regardless of budget size.
Encouraging young filmmakers, Dil Raju added, “All of the new directors, if you make even better films in the industry… The more successful small films are, the healthier the industry will be.”
His comments arrive during a phase where Tollywood has been facing backlash over a lack of strong content, release date confusion, and growing dependence on pan-India star hero films. Dil Raju’s speech reflects a growing industry belief that sustainable theatrical growth may ultimately depend not just on big-budget spectacles, but also on small and medium-sized films that consistently deliver quality stories and encourage audiences to return to theatres.
