Industry Had No Idea About This Undercurrent Wave

Hindi cinema is finally seeing a successful weekend after a long, long time. Though many in the industry were unsure of how Drishyam 2 will fare, the film lived up to its expectations in the southern languages and ended up drawing audiences to theatres.

Though the trade pundits seemed to have missed seeing the success coming, the film made Rs 63.25 crore over the weekend. And now, industry insiders say the collections will surprise during the weekdays too. One twitteratti wrote, “Yeh toofaan thamne wala nahi hai!!”

Drishyam had a prequel released in 2015 that was an average fare at the box office. But the film became a huge hit on Television. So people were waiting to see the rest of the drama unfold.

There was such a huge undercurrent wave, just like Baahubali 2, which the trade experts had no idea about. And hence no one imagined this kind of response for Drishyam 2.

The success also proves that remakes can still recreate the magic in Bollywood if the content is strong and there is no Hindi version available on OTT.
