Can Drishyam Trick the Audience Again?

With the teaser of Drishyam 3 out yesterday, the big question isn’t about excitement…

It’s about necessity.

The Drishyam universe, led by Mohanlal and created by Jeethu Joseph, is one of the rare franchises that felt complete, not once, but twice. Both films had closure, clever writing, and a sense of finality that didn’t demand continuation.

Yet here we are.

Part 3.

So naturally, the doubt kicks in, is this organic storytelling, or just extending a proven brand?

Because thrillers like Drishyam work on one core strength: surprise.

The first film shocked.
The second film outsmarted expectations.

But the third?

Now the audience knows the game.

They know Georgekutty’s mindset.
They expect twists.
They anticipate manipulation.

And that familiarity can be dangerous.

Because once the audience starts predicting the pattern, the impact reduces. What once felt genius can start feeling designed.

That’s where fatigue becomes real.

But at the same time, Drishyam isn’t a regular franchise.

It has already proven that it can reinvent itself. The second part didn’t feel like a cash grab, it felt like a smart extension. That’s why there’s still a section of the audience willing to trust the makers.

So this becomes a tightrope walk.

If Drishyam 3 delivers a genuinely fresh angle, something that goes beyond repeating the formula, it can once again pull off the impossible.

If not…

It risks exposing the very trick that made it iconic.

So are audiences exhausted?

Maybe a little.

But are they curious?

Definitely.

And that curiosity is exactly what the film is banking on.

Because in the end, Drishyam has always been about one thing,

manipulating the audience.

The only question now is…

Can it do it one more time?
