Dubbed films biggest threat to low-budget Telugu films

Out of hundreds of small films that are lying in the cans, only a handful make their way to the cinemas, thanks to the help of few producers. However, lately even with the help of producers, most low-budget Telugu films are hardly finding any takers and even if they did find one there are barely any theaters that wants to release them.

One of the reasons why most small Telugu films are struggling to get released is because of dubbed films being encouraged in Andhra Pradesh. One of the recent examples is the Telugu film called Mallela Theeram Lo Sirimalle Puvvu, which released on July 5, on the same day when Tamil dubbed film Singam: Yamudu 2 released.

While Yamudu 2 managed to get released in 50 screens all over Tamil Nadu, Mallela Theeram Lo Sirimalle Puvvu managed to release in only two screens. Only after positive word of mouth, did the film manage to get released in few more screens.

Why is that dubbed films are given more importance than Telugu films in Andhra Pradesh. This is not the first time this is happening. Shouldn’t the government intervene and take a step to help smaller films to have a wider release? For instance, Karnataka has completely banned dubbed films and it has certainly helped smaller Kannada films.
