EC’s national icons –Aamir, Kohli?

With general elections brought to the fore, the election commission is looking to appoint celebrities as national icons in order to persuade more and more people to make use of their right to vote. Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, boxer MC Mary Kom, badminton ace Saina Nehwal and former president APJ Abdul Kalam had already been roped in for this but soon actor Aamir Khan as well as cricketer Virat Kohli will also join the league. The jobs of these national icons are to reach out and spread awareness among the people through systematic voter education and electoral participation or SVEEP. SVEEP aims at encouraging more and more to vote as well as the voting to be both ethical as well as informed.

Officials have said that these icons are the brand ambassadors and it is the first time ever that they have six brand ambassadors to encourage the participation of voters.
