Fact Check: Is Leo a Telugu Sequel Freemake?

Despite mixed response, Leo has been doing terrific business not only in Tamil but also in Telugu states and overseas. The film has also become a topic of discussion for its story, characters, and direction.

A few detractors have been spreading clips from Jagapathi Babu’s movie Gaayam 2 and comparing it with Leo. The cafe fight scene in Leo bears an uncanny resemblance to a similar scene in Gaayam 2. These anti-fans are slamming Leo makers for blatantly copying Gaayam 2.

The truth is that both films are inspired by the Hollywood film, A History Of Violence, which has a similar scene. While Leo is an official remake, Gaayam 2 was a freemake.

That cafe fight scene in Leo was the highlight of the entire movie and stole the show completely. Loki’s direction, Anirudh’s BGM accompanied with that retro song, Anbariv’s stunts, and Vijay’s performance made the scene bone-chilling and unforgettable.

But there are some cinephiles who complain that being the imaginative and creative director Lokesh is, he could have slightly changed the scene and made it not look like a blatant copy. Lokesh could have added a unique twist to the scene to make it less reminiscent of the original source material.
