A report by Andhrajyothy has raised concerns over plans to demolish the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce Building in Filmnagar. The land, spread over an acre, was leased for 30 years for industry use, including offices, a preview theatre, and a club.
The agreement allows for an extension of the lease beyond thirty years. However, new efforts are underway to raze the existing structure and replace it with a high-rise commercial complex.
Filmnagar Cooperative Housing Society President Kaja Surya Narayana is reportedly promoting the plan, with Chamber President Bharath Bhushan and Secretary Prasanna supporting it. Allegations of large-scale corruption are already circulating within the industry.
Several industry veterans, including Suresh Babu, strongly oppose the idea. They argue that the land and building should remain under the complete ownership of the Telugu Film Industry. The Society’s offer to sell a floor on a no-loss, no-profit basis has not eased concerns.
The current Chamber leadership has continued beyond its official term without holding elections. Members allege that the delay is intentional, meant to push the redevelopment proposal and other related issues.
The Film Chamber land lies in a prime part of Filmnagar, right on the main road, with a market value estimated at over ₹100 crore. The existing buildings cover about 20,000 square feet, but a high-rise could generate nearly 1.7 lakh square feet of space.
Members opposing the demolition are planning to approach the Court or meet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to block the move and protect the industry’s property rights.
