Telugu Cinema might have the best directors in all of Indian cinema, but when it comes to technical aspects, we are certainly behind. For instance, the grade of music composers and cinematographers in Telugu is inferior to that of Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
Now the discussion is about the quality of cinematographers that are in circulation in South India. More precisely, we have the case of GK Vishnu, who is one of the most gifted yet underused principal cinematographers in the industry.
GK Vishnu had earlier worked on Ravi Teja’s Krack and disappeared from Telugu space later. He’s now away from the scene almost entirely. But he’s made a striking impression with Karuppu.
People might have complaints about the narrative and screenplay structure of this film, but the visual aspect that was composed by Vishnu is very good. The red colour palette that has been used through the course of the film is visually enriching and provides a good optic.
It is extremely evident that Vishnu is one of the most talented cinematographers in South Indian cinema and his visuals are brilliantly blending with the CGI work as well. This makes him all the more compatible candidate for Telugu films, which generally rely a lot on VFX and CGI.
It should be a matter of time before Vishnu gets back to Telugu cinema and bags a mainstream film. A gift technician like him under a genius like Sukumar can create wonders and let’s hope something like this happens sooner than later.
