For many, stepping into the Telugu film industry requires lineage, influence, or luck. For Battula Koteswara Rao, it required only a father’s determination. His debut production Purushaha marks the launch of his son, Pavan Kalyan Battula, as the hero.
Hailing from a modest family, Koteswara Rao admits he had no connection with cinema. But his admiration for actor Pawan Kalyan years ago planted a seed. “Naming my son after him wasn’t just fandom; it was a dream forming silently,” he says.
When his son grew up introverted and hesitant, he felt cinema could reshape him. Purushaha became both a launchpad and a personal mission. The project took shape when director Veeru Vulavala pitched an idea that instantly resonated with him. “The story felt honest. I wasn’t chasing a massive commercial blockbuster. I just wanted a meaningful film that would help my son grow,” he explains.
The producer made a pact with his son- three films, no matter what. “If he establishes himself, wonderful. If not, we’ll go back home and farm. But I will complete all three films within my limits,” he says with conviction.
The movie is set for release on May 22nd in 300 theatres, and the producer has also announced premieres on May 21st.
