Kamal Haasan Indian 3: Shankar’s Strict & Last Warning?

Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, directed by Shankar, was released in theatres on 12 July 2024. The film turned out to be a major box office disappointment and received poor reviews from audiences and critics, raising doubts about the future of the franchise.

Initially, Indian 2 was planned as a single film. However, due to its long runtime, the makers decided to split the story into two parts and add extra footage. As a result, Indian 2 released in 2024 with a teaser for Indian 3 shown at the end.

After the poor performance of Indian 2 and heavy losses for Lyca Productions, work on Indian 3 slowed down. The remaining portions of the film were reportedly put on hold, and there has been no official clarity about its release.

Some months ago, rumours suggested that Shankar would resume shooting and complete Indian 3 soon. However, the director later shifted focus to his dream historical project Velpari, which is expected to be mounted on a large scale.

According to ongoing speculation, Shankar has reportedly informed Lyca Productions that he plans to move ahead with Velpari. He has also given the producers some time to decide whether they want to complete Indian 3 before he begins the new project.

Sources suggest that if no decision is taken soon, Shankar may start Velpari immediately. Since the project is massive and time consuming, the director may not return to Indian 3 anytime soon, which could leave the sequel shelved indefinitely.

Social media reactions have been mixed regarding the situation. Some users feel Shankar should complete Indian 3 first, arguing that shelving the film would cause major financial losses for Lyca Productions.

Others believe the director should abandon the sequel entirely. They argue that the failure of Indian 2 has reduced interest in the franchise and fear that investing more money into Indian 3 may not deliver better results.
