Kamal Haasan‘s Indian 2, directed by Shankar, released last year in theatres but ended up as a disaster and became a troll fest among netizens.
Indian 2 was initially planned as a single film, but due to its long runtime, it was split into two parts. The first part released last year, ending with a trailer teasing Part 3.
Early buzz suggested that Lyca Productions walked out of the project. With some portions left to shoot, Indian 3 was said to be shelved.
Months later, speculation grew that Lyca Productions would resume work on Indian 3, with Red Giant Productions joining as a partner.
Now, reports claim Indian 3 is shelved again. Lyca Productions has exited, Netflix has withdrawn its deal, and Kamal Haasan is busy with other projects.
This means Indian 3 may not release for the next few years. For Shankar, this is a huge setback, as Indian 3 was his only project after the failures of Indian 2 and Game Changer.
Netizens have reacted that shelving is the right move. They argue that after Indian 2, interest in Indian 3 is low and that releasing it would have led to another flop.
So far, no official confirmation has been made. It remains uncertain if Indian 3 will remain unfinished or eventually resume in the future.
